Meet the Staff

Shelly Nye,
Program Director

Shelly has been the Program Director of The Nevada Registry since its inception in 2004 and has had the great privilege of taking what was just a concept twenty+ years ago and turning it into a fully functioning system now required by state Child Care Licensing regulations for educators working in licensed child care settings. She has been in the field of Early Care and Education (ECE) for over 30 years working in a variety of capacities ranging from licensed child care and before/after school programs to coordinating programs supporting the growth and development of ECE as a profession. She is actively engaged with the ECE community throughout the state through her involvement with various committees and workgroups aimed at raising the formal education and status of professionals working in the field of ECE. As the former Region 9 Representative and Secretary for the National Workforce Registry Alliance, she keeps abreast of workforce issues and professional development systems at the national level and engages in conversations with local and national colleagues to ensure Nevada has a seat at the table when speaking about the work of registries.  She holds a degree in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood from University of Nevada, Reno. Shelly’s lifetime professional goal is to elevate awareness of the importance of Early Childhood and bring greater recognition, higher value, and increased compensation to the ECE workforce. In her free time, Shelly dabbles in photography, enjoys paddle boarding, traveling and spending time with family.
