A message from the IRS to Nevada’s licensed child care providers:

Tool available for non-filers with qualifying children to receive advance payments.

Many of Nevada’s low and no-income families that aren’t required to file federal income tax returns (non-filers) may be eligible for Advance Payments of the 2021 Child Tax Credit.  The payments could be as much as $300/month beginning July 15th (through December 15th) for qualifying children.  The IRS is providing a unique tool on its website to allow non-filers with qualifying children to sign-up for the Advance Payments, or they can also file an electronic or paper 2020 return, to notify the IRS of eligibility.  This will also generally enable many of these families who missed out on the Economic Impact (“stimulus”) Payments to receive those as well, which could be as much as $5,700 for a single-parent family with one dependent child.

Please help get the word out to Nevada’s families in need and assist them by posting at your locations and/or providing IRS Publication 5534 2021 Advance Child Tax Credit Payments (English and Spanish) to your clients.  If you use social media, please consider placing the attached messages on your platforms.

If you have the resources, please consider helping your clients use the sign-up tool.  Full instructions are in IRS Publication 5538 A Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Non-filer Sign-up Tool for Child Tax Credit & Economic Impact Payments (English and Spanish).  Also, the Nevada Free Taxes Coalition is assisting families to obtain the monthly payments.  Taxpayers can schedule an appointment at (702) 987- 4625.
