Effective July 1, 2024, Washoe County child care licensing activities were officially absorbed by the State of Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services Child Care Licensing Program (DWSS CCL). This transition ensures there is a unified and consistent approach to child care licensing across Nevada, enhancing the quality and safety of child care services for families and providers alike. This transition is the result of continuous dialogue, between Washoe County and the State of Nevada to ensure a seamless transition and to optimize resources and support networks.
Significant steps are being made towards enhancing child care services statewide. Nevada is consolidating its regulatory framework under a unified umbrella, aiming to streamline operations and ensure consistency in child care licensing expectations across all counties. Under this unified system, all licensed child care facilities shall adhere to a consistent set of guidelines applied statewide. This approach ensures transparency, and provides robust support through accessible resources, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of child care services statewide. This consolidation also improves federal reporting efficiency, as streamlining reporting processes statewide means a more comprehensive and responsive approach to ensuring compliance with federal requirements.
“We understand the apprehensions associated with change,” said Latisha Brown, CCL Program Manager. “Our goal is to introduce ourselves, listen to concerns, and ensure a seamless transition. Families can expect continuity in services and easy access to inspection records and resources, promoting trust and community integration.”
